March 13: ARCTIC, Nixie, Waltz Darling at the Railway [02 Mar 2010|12:09pm]

projectarctic
Saturday, March 13 at the Railway Club - ARCTIC, Nixie (all the way from Kelowna!), Waltz Darling and one more TBA! Doors at 9, show at 10, $10.

ARCTIC: Haunting and moody with a hypnotic groove, ARCTIC conjures up chilly northern landscapes and intensely rich, layered space rock with their unique blend of electronic & acoustic sound that's been called "Metric meets Neil Young" and "ethereal art-rock akin to Radiohead or Fleet Foxes". http://www.projectarctic.com.

NIXIE: Nixie is a BC based all female band consisting of drums, synthesizers, piano, vocals, and bass guitar. They have already made waves in their hometown, Kelowna, and around Western Canada. The new wave/electro/dance grooves coming out of these four young ladies is sure to get you off your feet and leave you in a tranced awe. Their genre spans from dance to alternative to hip hop, into trance and pop. http://www.myspace.com/nixiemix

WALTZ DARLING have entertained local audiences for years with their crazy musical journeys. Sustained by their passion for all styles of music, their Eastern European roots have always been woven into their songs. Atila is Hungarian while his cousin Robert hails from just across the Serbian border. Their disagreements are the stuff of legend and high comedy. Rich's background is Polish and German, while Michael's grandparents were Russian Jews who ran from pitchfork-wielding neighbors. http://www.myspace.com/waltzdarling

AK-747s, Quiet Kids, The Orpheans [28 Oct 2009|05:23pm]
robitosmilin

The one show you don't want to miss this year.  AK-747s, Quiet Kids, and The Orpheans at what is destined to be Vancouvers best new underground venue, Bridge & Tunnel, 110 E. Hastings.  The minds behind the now defunct Misanthropy are behind this future narthex of awesomeness.  The only excuse you have to miss this show is if you're dead or in jail.  And if you're in jail....BREAK OUT!!!!  Cheap booze.  All proceeds will be donated to the balloon boy Falcon Heene.

venue capacity [19 May 2009|10:11pm]

twinkletits
Hello,
I'm looking for a bit of insight regarding how audience capacity of a venue is determined in this wonky city. I've been poring over Vancouver's website, finding a lot of really vague things, so I'm hoping perhaps someone might have some experience in these matters.
I know things like fire code, building code, square footage, exits and parking spaces all play a part. Is there something I'm missing?
Does the no-dancing thing play a part anywhere, or is that to do with liquor licensing?

casual hip outdoor sports for adult beginners [21 Apr 2009|03:30pm]

alysonfun
i've searched craigs and found some leagues/teams but there are always fees and waivers and other crap. are there any fun outdoor teams or leagues for total beginners?

-ultimate frisbee
-soccer
-badminton
-dr. dodgeball? :)

a weekly team that is free or cheap is best. i also have some lingering injuries so would have to modify my approach at some things (bad back & arm) and an understanding team would be nice. softball would be cool but i can't swing a bat with my arm...

bonus if it's full of young or young-at-heart/musician/artsy/punk types, and is in east van.

let me know, thanks.
